oDoc is an app which connects you with health care practitioners for video, audio and text consultations over your phone. It allows you to consult over 1000 practitioners (including SLMC registered GPs & specialists), obtain medical advice, receive a prescription (if medically warranted) and get your medication delivered. If lab tests are required, you could even order a mobile lab to your home or office. This means, the next time you are sick or need to speak to a health care practitioner, you can do this without wasting time and money in traffic, waiting rooms and queues.

Once you download the app, follow the simple registration process. Once you register – you can search for the doctor using the search bar or scroll through the page to find your doctor. Tap your preferred doctor’s profile to view the their details. Book the consultation and share notes with the doctor in advance using the chat screen.

The chances are, if you ask one of your doctor friends whether they treat their close family and friends over the phone, the answer would be “yes”.

oDoc is a way that lets us all have access to high quality care just as conveniently.

Phone consultations are very much like the doctor consultations you have experienced already. Your doctor would ask you your age, allergies and previous conditions. You would then discuss the symptoms you have been experiencing, for how long and whether those symptoms are getting better or worse.

In the event the doctor feels they don’t have the information necessary to treat you, they will inform you that a physical examination is required and to visit a doctor at a clinic or hospital.

Doctors are not in any way incentivised to somehow make a diagnosis on oDoc, as doctors receive the same fee from oDoc that they would for a physical visit on oDoc regardless of whether a diagnosis is made or not.

The American Medical Association has found that nearly 75% of regular doctor visits can be handled effectively through video or audio consultations.

In fact, in a meta-analysis in of over 90 peer-reviewed clinical trials conducted by Cochrane – a leading global collective of medical researchers – telemedicine was found to be effective or similar outcomes as face-to-face visit.

This form of healthcare delivery has gained global acceptance and is in wide use in countries including the US, the UK, India, Indonesia, the UAE and Rwanda.

The most common conditions that doctors treats over telemedicine platforms like oDoc would be a cold, flu, sinus, digestion, paediatric illnesses, skin conditions, advice on dietary & nutrition-related queries, advice on pain management, advice on women’s health issues, sexual health issues and mental health issues.

A video consultation is also a good platform to obtain second opinions, conduct follow up consultations, evaluate lab results and get advice general health-related queries.

Yes, you can. All prescriptions obtained through oDoc are issued by the health care practitioners on the platform. These are issued through a secure password-protected account unique to each practitioner.

Each prescription clearly identifies the practitioner issuing the prescription and carries the name, SLMC registration number (if available), seal and signature of that practitionerOnly SLMC registered GPs and Specialist may issue prescriptions.

Through these features, the prescriptions issued on oDoc are valid prescriptions under the National Medicines Regulatory Authority Act, No. 05 of 2015, the Regulations issued under the Cosmetics, Devices and Drugs Act, No. 27 of 1980 (as published in the Extraordinary Government Gazette No. 378/3 of 02 December 1985) and the Electronic Transactions Act, No. 19 of 2006, as amended.

All the 1000+ practitioners on the oDoc app have at least 5 years of experience. All doctors are registered with the SLMC.

There are 250+ specialists practicing on the oDoc app covering over 100 specialisations. These include paediatrics, gynaecology, dermatology, psychiatry and sexual health. All the specialists listed on the app are either board certified or meet the criteria mandated by the SLMC to be identified as a specialist. Specialists on the oDoc app have over 10, 15 or 20 years of experience.

The specialist available to be consulted over oDoc are the same specialist you would meet at major public and private hospitals in the country.

The oDoc service is available 24*7. You can consult our on-demand GP visible right at the top of the app homepage within 3 minutes at any time of the day. The over 450 GPs and specialists on the oDoc app can choose to either be available within minutes for on-demand consultations, or at specific times during the week for pre-scheduled appointments. You can select your doctor, select the time available that is convenient to you, and the doctor will call you back for your consultation at the scheduled time.

Please note that we currently only offer mobile labs in Colombo and its suburbs. To request a mobile lab after you were prescribed an investigation on oDoc, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the ‘Consultations’ thread
  2. Click on the chat thread with the doctor that prescribed you the investigations you would like done via a mobile lab.
  3. Click on the blue ‘Request Collection’ button under the ‘Investigations’ document that is present in the chat thread.
  4. Click on the ‘Confirm’ button at the bottom of the disclaimer.

After this process is completed, an agent from oLabs will call you to get your address, and to confirm your mobile lab.

Please note that sample collection will happen within 2-3 hours of placing the order and will be collected on the same day for orders placed before 7.00pm. For orders placed after 7.00pm samples will be collected the next day.

Once the investigation is completed and your samples have been taken, you can pay using cash or credit/debit card.

Please note that we currently only support delivery to Colombo, Negombo and its suburbs. To get medicine that was prescribed to you on oDoc delivered, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the ‘Consultations’ tab
  2. Click on the chat thread with the doctor that prescribed you the medication you would like delivered.
  3. Click on the blue ‘Request Delivery’ button under the ‘Prescription’ document that is present in the chat thread.
  4. Click on the ‘Confirm’ button at the bottom of the disclaimer.

Following these steps, an agent from oPharma will call you to get your address, and to confirm the delivery. 

Please note that same day delivery is guaranteed if requested before 5.00pm within Colombo 1 – 15. For deliveries outside of Colombo 1-15 orders will need to be placed before 3.00pm.  For all orders placed after this time, medicines will be delivered the following day. 

You have the option of having your medicines delivered within 2 hours for a delivery fee of Rs. 250 within Colombo 1-15 and Rs. 450 for deliveries outside of Colombo 1-15.

Once your medication is delivered to your doorstep, you can pay via cash or credit/debit card.

No. oDoc is designed to handle non-emergency medical conditions. You should NOT use oDoc if you are experiencing a medical emergency.

At oDoc, the security of your data is our highest priority. We treat personal information of individuals with the utmost care and maintain the highest standards of privacy and security.

Your interactions with doctors on oDoc are safe, private, and secure. oDoc does not share or sell your personally identifiable information with third parties.
oDoc is designed with multiple layers of bank level protection, including secure data transfer, encryption, network configuration & application and user-level controls that are distributed across a secure infrastructure.

Data is stored on HIPPA compliant servers (which is the stringent standard for storage of personal health information in the US).

Yes. All your medical history and information will be accessible by you at any time through the app.

Yes. before you confirm your purchase you can select the ‘book for someone else’ option.

oDoc provides you with an e-receipt which is printable and accepted by most large insurance companies. Please confirm with your relevant insurance provider.

You can cancel an oDoc video or audio consultation through the app. You may be charged a cancellation fee.

oDoc will offer you an appointment with the next available doctor (if one is available) or a full refund according to your preference.        

Please email us at refunds@oDoc.life within 24 hours of the incomplete consultation quoting your name, phone number and reason for the refund request.

The doctor will wait 2 minutes for you to reconnect and will try and call you back. If you are unable to reconnect and not reachable via chat, the doctor will end the consultation.

If your video or audio call is not reconnecting, you can also send the doctor a message asking to reschedule the appointment. Rescheduling is at the doctor’s discretion. If the doctor cannot reschedule

If you feel like you were unfairly charged, please email us at refunds@oDoc.life within 24 hours of the consultation quoting your name, phone number and reason for refund request.

For iOS users:

  1. Go to the “Me” tab after login into the app.
  2. Tap on your name (which should be underlined).
  3. Tap on “Delete Account”
